"Sadly you're not the first woman I've come across who doesn't beleive in love, which makes me think us men need to sharpen up and start to educate you women about the reality of love."
News flash for you: I'm a guy and I don't believe in love either. I'm also not the only guy who shares this view. Perhaps it is you who needs the education. Or, if you do not favor having a view you disagree with thrust upon you, than I suggest you leave others alone and allow them to believe as they wish.
Explanatory note: My theory is that love exists only as an emotional impulse and not a state of being. Love, like anger, sadness, happyness, etc. can indeed be felt, but only for the duration of the impulse. Thus, nobody is "in love." For someone to be in love with someone else for a prolongued period of time would require them to feel that one thing for the entire time. Inasmuch as human nature dictates that moods change with alarming frequency, this is pretty much impossible. You can't spend a whole day laughing. Likewise, you can't spend a whole day feeling love. Furthermore, I believe this idealized view of love to be destructive and detrimental. Inasmuch as people continue to aim for that which they cannot experience (lasting love), they will only inflict grief upon themselves. Meanwhile, in doing so they negate the reality of any relationship they are involved with. If people stopped worrying about whether its love or not and simply learned how to enjoy each other's company, they'd be a lot better off.
