When you say "sadly" I presume the person in question did not survive. I also presume they did not try urine therapy, but conventional treatments failed. Should not any research into possible cures be encouraged, provided the theories are rigorously tested? It's not as if a single penny of your tax-money is being spent in this way (can you imagine the tabloid headlines if it were!).
Even if a cure by this method turns out to be a false hope there are many people for whom conventional science can offer no hope either.
Some people may just be willing to accept what fate has bestowed upon them but for many others it is important never to give up hope right till the last breath. I'm at an age (43) when I'm starting to worry about aches, pains and swellings (saw the doctor just yesterday, in fact) and I fully intend to explore any available method to prolong my life to its limits.
