I often see women pee their running briefs in these events. There seem to be two camps of thought about it - those that believe in hydration to the max regardless of having to pee their pants during the event, and those who try to moderate their intake, so that they don't have to pee their pants. I'm always interested to see that the ones who pee their pants often look fresher than those who don't. I guess that's just the hydration that does that. But the one event that has absolutely EVERYONE peeing their pants at some point, is the marathon. I've noticed in recent times that a lot of women are opting for the bodysuit style of running outfit, worn next to the skin with no underwear, rather than the more traditional knickers and briefs or shorts. I think this has had the effect that basicly the whole outfit gets saturated with sweat, so pee just doesn't show. But there are still some holdouts that run in either shorts or briefs with underwear, and they always show the pee-patches, because their underwear prevents the rest of the briefs getting overly wet. Nice look, I have to say. You will see quite a few of these more traditional running outfits in the 10,000m, which has many more women in it who will try not to pee, I think, and it's nice to see the odd one or two who do. I even saw one of the Aussies (Aussie, Aussie, Aussie, Oy, Oy, Oy! Sorry, had to do that!) pee her briefs in one of the 5,000m heats. There are some who even START the race so hydrated they're peeing their pants on the start line. Lisa Martin was one of these, and she would typically start peeing her pants before the starter's gun, pee pretty much throughout the race and end up wet at the end, with huge salt stains from repeated wettings in her dark green Aussie running briefs.
I like long distance athletics. That's one of the reasons I like cycling! :)
