These policies won't stop anyone? I'm pretty sure they just did. A link to copyrighted material was deleted, mission successful. While we can both agree that they won't stop people COMPLETELY, we can also agree that this aspect applies to all laws, that there is always a way to get what you want if you don't care how you get it.
Copyright enforcement doesn't result in revenue generation? Oh really? Ever heard of the RIAA and/or Metallica? Revenue CITY, dude. You pointed out the flaw in your own argument-- if it wasn't profitable, they probably wouldn't do it. Even IF the resources used in pursuing the revenue generated from lawsuits could be more effectively invested, guess what? They're doing it because it's the PRINCIPLE of the matter, taking money from criminals and giving it to those who've legally earned it... and since their principle is based on ethics and morality, and yours is based on a sort of criminal laissez faire, they are going to be the ones supported by not only the law but the general public.
Do you really believe that policing the boards here for possible criminal activity is a waste of time? Think of it like an insurance policy-- you pay a dude minimum wage for a few hours a day in order to avoid what could be a business-crippling copyright lawsuit. It might not be generating revenue, but it's certainly a decent enough protection against a LOSS of revenue due to frivolous lawsuits.
