This post partially relates to two earlier posts: the first being about dressing as a baby for Halloween parties, the second highlighting the prevalence of infantile fashions in Japan.
I was recently reading an article in one of the more dumbed-down broadsheets about rave culture in the late 1990s, when I started to notice certain parallels between that scene and our fetish.
It brought to mind a documentary on dance music I saw a couple of years ago where some ravers (mainly young women) talked about their fashions and their views on life. I remember thinking afterwards that their whole attitude had smacked of 'Psychosexual infantilism' - to dig up an old Freudian term.
The girls on the program showed off their infantile clobber (pajamas, cuddly toys and pacifiers) while moaning about growing up and stating that the world would be a much better place if we all behaved like three year olds. They certainly struck me as individuals with infantile leanings although I hadn't really noticed the overall endemic infantilism of the rave scene until this article.
Whether some ravers share our glorious fetish is debatable, although I certainly find the similarities quite intriguing. I was also wondering if anyone here is into the dance scene, and whether they have not only worn children's clothing to a rave, but have actually gone the whole way and bunged on a diaper as well. It strikes me as the right sort of environment for dressing like a toddler (unlike a heavy metal gig for example). Some guy (or gal) dancing in kids' pajamas while sucking on a pacifier and wearing Pampers or Goodnites or something - listening to what Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher recently referred to as 'Dalek Music' - would probably be in their element at a rave.
