1.)Needless to say people have a right to determine what kinds of behavior they are willing to engage in depending on their own comfort. My contention is that their determination should be made individually, rather that referring by default to social norms they may or may not even believe in. In other words, without going as far as to be a totally inconsiderate jerk, fuck what other people think.
2.)I'm not going to argue Cornell's talent, but don't sell Tom Morello short. While he might not rank among the greatest guitarists of all time, he is nontheless well above average (listen to the guitarwork on "Like a Stone" or any number of Rage Against the Machine songs). Nontheless, despite the talents of Cornell and Morello, it is easy to view Audioslave as a dissapointment. They come off sounding more like a collection of musicians than a real band at times. And, while I can buy the argument that Velvet Revolver is overly generic, they are still listentoable, in my opinion. With regards to todays music, yes, the talent level is spread pretty thin. There are good bands out there though (typically the ones you don't hear much about); you just have to be willing to look for them.
