Fleet saline laxative is a small green bottle of (about 100ml, maybe 4 oz) salts you get at the drugstore (in the US) or the chemist (but maybe not by that brand name). It's made near me by C.B Fleet Co, Lynchburg, PA. Tell the pharmacist you need to prep for a colonoscopy, but you forgot your instruction sheet. I needed mine because of a persistent sore spot on my gut.
I was drinking considerable water, since that helped with the soreness, and experienced high urgency but no real loss of control of bowels or bladder. In fact, I don't think I peed too much before the procedure because all the water went into my guts. But when I woke up on the table, I think I must have peed 1-1/2 to 2 quarts -- it was kind of funny lying there asking where I was to pee! The other thing was that the internal manipulations meant I slept a lot that weekend and didn't do much by way of exercise.
The only time I have really not known I was about to poop have been when I'm sick in some way -- either I have shocked my gut with cold water on a hot day, and I am asleep the following night, and probably pretty tired from the day's exertions (2-3 times in my life, as a teenager), or, the time I had food poisoning that almost caused me to lose my appendix, (and incidentally lead to that colonoscopy through that painful spot on my gut), and I had liquid diarrhea that felt like a little gas on the way out. The diaper didn't get very dirty that time, though, as I suspected that might happen.
Incidentally, I don't recall being told to put anything in particular on my rump for the colonoscopy; I think just showering on the morning before was adequate.
I think if you want to not know about a pooping, you might want some kind of tube with an inflatable retainer in your butt...kind of like the stuff I saw in the shop on alt.com for "retention enemas".
