Hmm, 28 and no GF?
I hit that problem when I was 35, after a disastrous relationship.
I discovered that I would not meet a GF at the bar where I was hanging out, and, being an engineer, there were no available women at work, either.
So what I did was to go get a social life, doing things I enjoy anyway. Between dancing and hiking with a group, I was no longer lonely. I also have heard complaints that MENSA is just a dating club; it is an alternative place to get a social life.
I did in fact use the personals section of my local alternative paper (around here, there's a buck saver so the standard want ads stink), but the only thing it did for me in the end was to confirm that someone I already knew was actually looking.
