I remember reading the newspaper account of that incident the next day. She really did ask for a bathroom break and was refused. She complained about it after the match, but I don't know about the crying.
It was generally believed, though that they request was just a stalling ploy in the match. It was starting to get dark and the match was about to halted and continued the next day. Anna was losing and apparently wanted to make a fresh start of it the next day. Asking for the bathroom break (tennis players are allowed 2 breaks per match, I believe) was a ploy to stall the match.
We can always dream, though, can't we. One of my favorite incidents, though, was one match in some minor tournament, when Steffi Graf hurridly left the court and ran for the locker room immediately after the match. She returned to the court 5 minutes or so later, for the post match stuff and to sign autographs. I don't think she wet herself, but I do believe it was a desperation situation.
