Thanks for your eloquent reply, Lionheart. My father flew with the RAF in World War 2 and was incredibly lucky to survive. I know that he and his navigator (both still living) said many a prayer during their exploits, but so too would many of those who perished, on both sides. I don't think God takes sides in war, nor do I believe that there can ever be a Holy war, as so many foolish people in this world seem to believe (and we can see them on our TV screens right now).
Had I been my father's age in the early 1940s I like to think that I would have been a concientious objector, and found some useful employment on the home front. I would hate to be put in a "kill or be killed" situation. Life is far too precious and I wouldn't wish death upon any living soul, no matter what their crimes were.
