One way of working, which I am currently testing the code for for one of my (non-adult) sites, is this:
Users can *optionally* register a nickname (associate it with a password). Anyone can still post a message, and no password or registration is required to do so (which preserved the immediacy and sense of extreme convenience that is needed to encourage lurkers to post on a whim); but, additionally, a user may use his *registered* nickname on one or more posts. Such a message (which will be typographically distinctive on the index) will then be known not to originate from an imposter - and yet, a user could also post anonymously any time he wants, without having to register.
For certain sociopolitical reasons, I am theorising that this will reduce bickering.
