OK, you're right, it didn't occur to me when I wrote this "true" tale I'd come across as a vandal. I tried to make the story sound appealing to readers! Guess I was way off target.
Actually, what I did was this. IT was one of those Jockey three-packs in a plastic tube. After doing my deed, I stuffed the three pair back into the tube. But the container fogged up and it was obvious they were wet. I was too embarrassed to take them to the cashier. So I found a men's room (and my jacket covered my ctrotch so no one could actually see my jeans were damp) and got some paper towels. Went back to the defiled package on the shelf, wiped it out as best I could, took it to the cashier, my face must've been very red, I was sweating and mortified should she notice they looked wet. I spent my $5.99 or whatever and bought the underwear.
It seemed to me that telling a story about leaving them on the shelf might have been intriguing. Oh well, guess not.
