The way our school system worked, sixth grade was the end of elementary school, and in 7th grade we started at a new school (the Middle School, as our town called it).
At the end of each year, the 6th graders didn't have a graduation, but were called on to perform in a show instead. The shows were always in early June, and usually featured the classes doing dances (some square dancing, some tap), a few recitals of poems and several musical performances.
One student, Sue, had always been a nervous girl. She was one of the girls in 2nd grade who wet herself, and I heard she did it in 5th grade also; but we were not in the same class then.
Anyway, for the pagent, Sue was going to play her clarinet. There were 4 of us playing that particular number, I was (horrendously) playing the flute, Donny had a sax and Tina was doing the piano part. (If any of you have taken elementary music lessons, the piece we did was called "Amaryllis").
Of course we all dressed up, as our parents would be attending, as would the rest of the school; including all the faculty and principal.
Tina was not on stage, as the piano was just below the stage, in the pit---stage right. If you were to look at the stage, I sat on the left, Sue in the middle and Donny to the right.
I remember Sue wearing a floral print dress, with smocking on the bodice and a big white collar. She also had on white ankle socks and black patent leather shoes...the kind with the straps across the ankle.
Before the performance, Sue was in an awful state. She fidgeted from foot to foot, and literally shook from nerves. She also kept alternating from being flushed and sweaty to going completely pale.
Two numbers before ours, our teacher gave us a bit of a pep talk (don't be nervous, you all look lovely, stuff like that) and shoo-ed us off to the restrooms. Tina and I went, but Sue; though she came with us, didn't pee. I think she was too shy and nervous to go around others.
She was still white and fidgety as we took the stage. Tina gave us the cue, and we started playing. As Sue played, she seemed to calm down, and we finished the number together, without too many sour notes. Then disaster struck.
We all stood to take our bows, as our parents and peers applauded. Either Sue was so overwhelmed or relieved....well, she totally lost it. She straightened up from her bow with tears streaming down her reddend face and a gusher of pee pooling around her feet and soaking into her socks. Donny and I both quickly exited to our respective sides of the stage as Sue stood there shaking and crying and pissing herself in front of the whole school. She was so overwhelmed that the teacher had to go and lead her off stage and try to calm her down.
