I've just remembered another incident. I'd have been about 12 at the time. We were have a French lesson. We were sitting at tables the seated four children, facing each other. The girl opposite me was called Sue and I rather fancied her: long brown hair, very slim, wore a very tight pencil skirt (the uniform just said blue skirt, no shorter than X inches - it didn't specify a style). Towards the end of the lesson Sue was starting to wriggle a bit, but I didn't appreciate her predicament. I noticed that her voice went a bit wobbly whenever she answered the teacher's questions. Suddenly, just as the bell rang for the end of the lesson, she went beetroot red. No, more like pillar-box red. She looked down at the desk and burst into tears. Still I didn't realise what had happened (my pee detector wasn't so good in thsoe days!). As the rest of us started to get up and leave, Sue remained seated there. The (woman) teacher came over to see what was that matter and Sue whispered something her. Instantly any boy nearby was shooed away. It was only when I saw Sue a bit later on wearing different clothes and I heard people sniggering that I realised what I'd witnessed without even realising.
