Where I grew up (in the US) there was a law
passed which effectively integrated all PE
classes. The locker rooms were of course still
single sex but everthing else was done mixed.
The male and female instructors shared the
jobs of teaching students and it worked quite
well. The boys really became a lot more
civilized after this happened.
Funniest part was when doing calasthenics, during
the leg lifts, one of the boys would inevitably
let out a monster fart. Shortly after classes
were integrated this indeed happened, and there
was an amazing chain-laugh that propogated over
from the girl's side (calasthenics were done
with boys on one side, and girls on the other of
a large gym).
The integration by sexes was really a pretty
good idea as it focused the classes more on
really being physically fit, and less on pseudo
military training, which was how it was before.
The only down side was that I had gotten in the
habit of not wearing any underwear beneath my
jeans, on days without gym. One day of course
I forgot, and had to be *very* circumspect about
who I was gazing at and what I was thinking for
the entire hour.
