I am interested to hear that SPAM in the internet sense has its own acronym. I had always assumed that the term derived from "spam" the canned meat. "Spam" was a trademark for a type of SPiced hAM used to disguise otherwise uneatable cuts of meat during the second world war. For reasons that are beyond me it is still popular in Britain to this day. But the reference is to something revolting, disposable and utterly junky.
