I think connecting on many levels and compatibility in areas other than "kink" is a must as well. I'm not sure anyone could be or would want to be 24/7. "Real Life" surely gets in the way, be it job, family, friends or anything else.
When all is said and done there better be more than just a "kink" to hold the relationship together.
