Please pay me no mind. I trained into the city today for a conference and, apparently, sitting through boring seminars all day prods my paternal instinct into gear, who knew? Anyway, on the train home I wrote this really, really cheesy poem on my laptop and thought I'd sahre it with you folks (warts and all).
What's a Daddy
What's a Daddy without his baby girl?
Whose softness he draws upon, and
To whose little form his heart will unfurl?
What's a Daddy without a soft baby girl’s tummy to tickle,
To ease away the slings and arrows of the day,
To keep away the intrusions of a world sometimes cold and fickle?
What's a Daddy without a dirty little girl to put into the tub?
To play with a rubber ducky and make her giggle
Even as we soap and we scrub?
What's a Daddy without his lovely woman grown,
Someone who is equal, but who coyly hints and wishes
For a second childhood all her own?
What's a Daddy with out his mischievous sprite,
Who throws an occasional tantrum
And whose attitude sometimes needs to be set a' right?
What's a Daddy without a little girl to sit upon his lap
to quietly console with a rub or a pat,
as he shushes away her tears, and feeds her a baby bottle nightcap?
And what is a Daddy without his little one who can let down her guard,
To allow herself to endearingly need his guidance and love
when the road of life, or the day at work, has been so long and hard?
What have we proven then? What have we shone?
That a Daddy without his little one
Is very, very alone...
Yeah, I know what you're thinking: pretty groan worthy ;-)
