Have you told him all of this? Dropping hints and alluding don't count with deep stuff. If you want to tell him, then maybe write it out in a letter and give it to him.
Actually, all you wrote from "it has NOTHING..." to "...loved ona deeper level" sums up just about everything you may want to tell him.
It is up to you if you want to tell him all of that, though.
You know him better than us.
