I think the main difference here comes in the nature of the role-play - colouring in, reading stories, toys, etc, - and in the dressing up/incontinence side of the fetish; as I see it an ABDL is by definition going to do all their messing/piddling in a nappy, which is to a greater or lesser extent containing of the mess; the LG sorority who go for the uro- or copro-philic aspects of the fetish are probably going to spend more time messing/wetting little-girl panties, the latter of which is almost always NOT contained (Hard motions might be), and soaks through whatever else they're wearing/lying or sitting on. (Granted, ABDLs can arrange to wet/soil till they overflow, but an LG wetting her knickers will always stain her clothes and/or the bed.) And when the LG is 'changed', she has the option of a diaper (and a reversion to the ABDL side of the incontinence deal) or 'grown up girls' panties'/terry-towelling trainers or pull-ups, whereas a true infantile AB will only have one option. Finally, unless they arrange to overflow, ABDLs will not be bedwetters (if that's your kink).
The ABDL is pretty much _expected_ to mess themselves at some stage (nappy change roleplay comes with the territory); the LG can choose it as a kink, or stay continent and just play cute if the urophilia/coprophilia side of the fetish offends or unnerves her. If she wants to play a four year old at kinder who wets her pants, fine; if she doesn't like self-soiling and just wants to play an overgrown, totally continent ten year old, she's got that option too.
