I LOVE my pacifiers! My latest project is designing pretty pacifier clips. I've tried a bunch of diffrenet kinds of pacifiers and here's what I've discovered:
Nuk 3 - first ones I tried...large nipple but small mouth guard. This is actually my least favorite kind - it sorta pinches the corners of your mouth and though the nipple is big-around it doesn't reach that far into your mouth.
Evenflo (comfort vent) This is by FAR my favorite type! The mouthguard is big, and the nipple reaches pretty far into your mouth. This is the kind I always use when sleeping and unlike others which will pop out, this one will stay in all night.
Mam Crystal - these also have larger mouthguards and are a nice change. They come in pretty colors to coordinate with outfits, but they don't have the little handle/ring to attach a pacifier clip to (I'm trying to design a clip that will still work with them) The nipple is shaped a little differently but still orthodontic. It doesn't reach as far into the mouth as the evenflo, but is still pretty good.
Some other generic type I got from Babies R Us (I'll eventually look up the brand and repost it) This kind is shaped a little more like the Nuk mouthguard but it's not rounded so it doesn't pinch. The nipples are silicone and shaped like evenflo but they don't reach as far into the mouth. They're also a bit stiffer than the other brands. Not the most comfortable but they come in cute babyish colors and are an OK change.
I've also heard great things about the larger Nuk's. I know they can be purchased on ebay. But they're pretty expensive so I haven't tried them (since if you use the pacifiers all the time the rubber nipples will only last a couple months or so) I'm a big bargian hunter and just can't see spending that much money...but I have heard a lot of good reviews.
I found some of the best places price-wise on those pacifiers are Target, Wallmart and K-mart. They all came in two-packs and I don't think I paid over $4 for any of them.
Good luck with your shopping!!
