Hey everyone
I am using a virtual private server and i accidentally changed linux file permissions around thanx giving. then they re set it to original specs with all my files fromt he previous system in a folder called /old
So then i spent 3 hours on friday morning (got up early so i could get it online for all my readers of tdt and so on) and i set it all up, dns, accounts, copied web documents back ina nd fixed little querky things that needed ot be fine tuned and lo and behold it was fixed. so before i backed it up i decided to rm -rf /old (remove the old folder) and that is what the guy had told me to do. So i did. but lo and behold some share components were lined int here some how and it screwed some file sin /etc on the liv esystem and so by saturday i got ahold of the over night guy (the only guy at this palce who can really do anything the day people just know how to do the basics and take orders) so he's liek shit i thought you were fixe di'm like hell no it broke when i took out the /old folder
So then he gets it setup over night with my stuff again in the /old folder so this mroning i get up at 7AM! after only 6 hours of sleep and lo and behold by the time its time for church at 10 oclock i get dressed and go , when i left the house mys erver was perfect TDT was up, my other friends domains were up mail was working dns etc. Yay! i thought to myself. then i came home and took a nap then int he evening i started oging an ftp backup just cuz i knew that if something happend again ic ouldn't trust there backup system always. belvie me i'm getting some hwere with this so hagn int here. Anyway my ftp session times out and i go and check and guess what??? (this time i had not removed old i askedd the other guy to do it so it wont be on me if it breaks this time around) so i go and my server is reset back to factory reset basically meaning all my work that i did this mroning is gone!!!!!!!!! plus all data. and no one is in tonight not evne the night guy so i may not even get it worke don by him until tomorow night (monday) and then i probably wont wake up until 10 th enext morning and do it aat work at lunch time!!! SIghs!
Worse thing is now that its reset back, this time thers no /old directory and even tho i spent along time doing my ftp backup, i am missing a substantial portion of tdt! (Diaper-Tales .NET!) meanign that if they totally lost my shit i'm fucked! and not only do i have the hours of reconfiguring the server to look forward to but allt he man hours of recent changes. You may ask why id idn't back it up, i did, the vps has a backup thing that puts your data on a cluster node ont her enetwork but one day staff guy migrate dmy VPS to a different node and i lost my backup. the bad thing is i di substantial work this past 10 days on TDT and the website in general. I have the story chapters, but alot of the HTML of the site and some other stuff is gone.. UNLESS they sitll have the /old folder somewhere... mabye they started to delete the old directory and screwed it up... but no on e answered the phones hehehe. I dont know i think the not knowing the total status of my data is more upsetting them the prospect of redoing it a third time tomorow! LOl *shakes his head* This makes me a very cranky baby, to say the least. Well there ya go you're all updated now. hehe. Wish me luck I'll need it.
