I definitely think wiring can be a major factor. I am ADD myself (inattentive type) and have talked to AB/DG girls online who are as well, and it seems a lot of people in both fetish club scenes and renaissance faires have a much greater tendency toward odd wiring than the general population (still search for my Renny AB Princess).
Part of this, I'm sure, has to do with sensory integration. With ADD (and other "wirings") there's usually both a minimum and a maximum level of stimulus that your brain needs to be engaged. So internal fantasizing, and props and cue words that trigger your inside fantasies, help ADD folks reach that minimum level of engagement, while in the case of ABs and DGs, roleplaying helps to make social cues (which take a lot of mental energy to process) less daunting and lets you interact with the person on a tactile, sometimes preverbal level.
In some of my writings I include a character who regresses to deal with her ADD (Cyan). I am long overdue for another chapter.
