I like the term Uncle, its in the same vein as Auntie if you remember when you were growing up all your next door neighbours or close friends of the family, you would refer to then as Uncle and Auntie even though they werent related what so ever.
I think it is more about Guardianship. The trust that the little girl and her paternal figure has granted you means that it is a very special position to hold.
I also like to see it as someone who is always there for advice, always ready to answer questions and be there with some words of wisdom and sound judgement. So for me it means more "one who is close and trusted",
I feel that an Uncle still has a responsibility to take care of any little one but has none of the direct control or ownership that a Daddy has. I never abuse the word and therefore the position of Daddy which is far more serious I feel . I have my own Baby Girl and only she can call me Daddy - that postition is happily already taken :)
Interesting topic though nuturing, thanks for posting that, you made my brain work for a minute or two and I like that
