First, its not "corny" that you loved each other -- even if you fell in love so quickly. Really, I think your affections for each other are/were sweet.
Second, your current situation is *extremely* common among kinky people. You'll find support here for sure, but I think some of the larger BDSM groups may provide even greater support because the submissive women there discuss this topic in-depth and often.
Third, you might try reevaluating your trust strategy if it doesn't work out with Adam. Its hard to keep yourself from jumping head first into a new DLG romance, but by keeping your expectations grounded and by taking things slowly, you're less likely to be hurt if things don't work out.
Fourth, I recommend searching through your local face-to-face kink groups as a preferred method to searching on the Web. This may not be possible where you live, but if you do have real-time kink groups, then you have the advantage of *seeing* and *experiencing* new people immediately, before you invest your heart and trust. That's the problem with Web romances -- people sometimes fall in love before they've met the other person face-to-face -- but that's simply unrealistic for day-to-day life.
