Tish covered a valid point of many people leave an instant messagner on when they are actually not around. I've known people who leave their IM on for days, disable the "idle" function and never put up an away message.
Also, lots of people have connection problems with their ISP. It has happened to us all; we sign on, suddenly we're kicked off, sign on, repeat.
Keep in mind that some people may go through periods of not coming online. Their real life may have suddenly gotten busier.
Or, sorry to say, they may have found someone in real life to be with.
In sum; forget Elane for the obvious reason. Jana sounds like the type who only contacts if she is in need of attention and no one else is around. And Lois is a mystery.
Keep trying to find your perfect little girl, and continue to be a good daddy.
