It is over-diagnosed, but there are also alot of kids out there with a huge need for it. Also ADHD is a lot more noticablec than the add. Since they may be so hyper. Besides its better for people to get overdiagnosed, than underdiagnosed. its the best way to get them help. AS for medications, if a non-adhd perason is placed on them they become hyped up, since adhd medication is a stimulant. Myself i am add, my lady is adhd. People can learn to survive unmedicated like myself, who has manged to get a masters without one. Than there are some people who can't manage at all. I've seen several of them at my job. also the higher prevalance of adhd doesn't necessarily mean that it is being overdiagnosed. Its just beeing noticed more frequentlly, and more easly identified. 20 years ago when i was in grade school, it was not that prevlant, and most teachers had very little idea what it was or how to handle it. Now most teachers are giving at least some training in this and other learning disorders. So they are mor elikely to get these kids hellp. Plus in order to get a diagnoses of adhd, a child has to go through a number of tests, psychological and neurological, to detemrine if he or she is adhd.
actually ther eis a slight difference between childhood adhd and adult adhd. A lot of the hyper behavior disppears and is replaced with sense of restlessness, the impulsiivty tones down too. Its not so much as these things lesssen, its just that the indivdual learns more about handling them.
Ok thats it for my quick summary on adhd.
ps. there is no longer adhd and add, its all adhd now, with a specifier of inatentive type, hyper, type, or combined type.
Ok thats it I'm done blabbing for now.
