It probably means that he is hoping that it will go away - in other words - that you will just come to your senses and "be normal" for him, whatever that means. Do sort out your feelings, my dear, and walk away - unless there is some sort of miraculous, genuine conciliation on his part. He is not worth any continued anguish.
