I'm sorry to hear that he doesn't understand, and that his words were cruel. Not everyone has the kindness to accept sexual differences in a lover; those of us who have them sometimes just have to look a little harder for the right person.
Revealing something about yourself that makes you seem less "perfect" to someone else who values "normalcy" in a partner can lead to very hurtful things. Really, though, it gives you an idea of what the person you're with is all about and whether they love who you really or just some constructed idea of you they keep in their mind. That someone should reject you over something as harmless as the things we on this board enjoy suggests that such a person is the sort who would dump someone they claimed to love just as soon as "the going gets rough."
