Thanks for touching off an interesting discussion. As to safewords, I believe that we're mostly on the same page. If you'll recall, I suggested that emotional distress WAS a proper reason to invoke a safeword.
My inference of boredom was to address where you repeated your friend in saying that the submissive wasn't "gaining pleasure from it" (the scene) as a reason to invoke a safeword. That was the abuse of safewords that I was talking about; using one to exit a scene simply because it was not pleasurable, i.e. being bored with it.
