I can see discounting a paranoid mother,but his wanting to keep your meeting secret from anyone you know (or he knows) is a red flag.
I know that I am offended by being the subject of a "safe call" (something people use for those whose kink interests they KNOW about,while they may be meeting people with kink interests they DON'T know about in less "safe" conditions every day) but you have to have some control and safety in this situation.Set a time,a date,a place,and make sure others will worry if they haven't heard from or seen you by a certain time.It doesn't have to be your mother.
How well do you know the man?...are you positive he is not hiding a wife etc. from you?You are sure of his real name and address and phone number?
