Amen, brother! These notions of complete dependance, the implication of 24/7 diaper reliance, and the rest of this is just hooey. As you say, AB play is much more flexible than those who would seek to distance themselves from the term seem to believe. Shame though it is, a really think that something else is at work.
All of this anti-AB stuff is really just a subtext for gender-based discrimination and a preference towards gender-norms and M/f patriarchical roles. Let's remember not to confuse a preference for consensual, patriarchical roleplay with applying real chauvinism/"traditional ideas" about "men and women" to how we feel ageplay "ought to be"!
