Cuddlemonkey is very right that you just have to keep doing it and get used to it.
There is certainly a difficulty with your desire to both have him react negatively and to not allow that reaction to affect your inclination to keep doing it.(In my case assuring her it's okay and she's not expected to control it is essential to create the mood I want between us,but obviously that is not the kind of mood you're looking for).
You may want to get more comfortable doing it before he starts reacting negatively,if you don't want him reinforcing inhibitions you're already struggling to overcome.
