I guess with me it is nothing to do with 'forcing' my little one to do something or 'humiliating' them. It is about giving and enforcing boundaries as you would with any child. The rules are there to keep your little one safe and secure.
Of course, personally I like my little girl to be a bit bratty and always trying to push those boundaries. It just makes the whole role playing more interesting and fun for me. And when she goes too far there has to be some kind of punishment or sanction. That can range from the removal of a treat or priviledge to a spanking or time-out in the "naughty corner".
The punishment is not what is important it is just another part of the overall Daddy/lg relationship that I'm looking for. I think the biggest part would be the gentle, caring and loving side that you seek but for me I also want to play with my little girl and, yes, sometimes I would have to make and enforce some rules for her own good.
Good girls are no fun ;-)
