I know that I'm going to get flamed for this, but I just cringe each time I read your spelling mistake. In general you spell well, so I hope that you don't take offense with my correction. It is not meant in a mean way.

c followed by an a, o, or u makes the "hard c" sound- like a "k"

c followed by an e, i, or y makes the "soft c sound" sound like an "s"

er, ir, and ur all make the "er" sound

So I can understand why you are spelling the word "cirtin" the way you do, but it is actually the other "er" sound that would go with a soft c- er.

For the second syllable, your problem is that we say the word wrong. We make the "A" sound into an "i" sound. (Goes back to something called the Great Vowel shift) That is why you are having a problem with the second syllable, but it is actually spelled tain, so the word is actually certain (not cirtin)
