Hi...
I myself play a Les Paul Studio and i use a GNX-3 pedal system and a peavy 15" keyboard amp... or y stereo or computer when hooking up at home... but as far as somethign decent to play on try looking into fender. they have a good line of guitars in the mid price range. Get a hard case, gig bags aren't as safe if you plan on doing any traveling with the guitar. Also keep on hand extra sets of strings i use thin strings cuz i like the way they play. as for pedals you can get a distortion pedal and a chorus or reverb pedal for 30 or 40 per pedal or 100 bucks for a little sound machine with a few presets and sounds Digitech makes cool stuff... as for amps, don't get any speaker size less then 8" full range speaker cuz those tiny practice amps won't do you very good with the sound you want..
If you have more questions just e-mail me. also sometimes my babyvern@diaper-tales.net account gets weird and doesn't get all the e-m ails (dont know why yet) so you can also e-mail me at vern@servumail.com if you don't get a reply from the other. I been playing since 92, i started with a 150 dollar guitar, 150 12" amp, and no pedals at first... then got a digitech RP-1 in 93 then in 2003 got a GNX-3 for my pedal system.
Well anyway off to bed, baby needs his rest. :)
