That's a good point about the costs of health care for those who practise unsafe sex and get sick. But in a sense you made my point for me, by saying that most gay people now wear a condom whereas many straight people don't. It's the promiscuity that's the problem, not the homosexuality per se.
I happen to agree that promiscuity and unsafe sex are morally wrong, not because the New Testament says so, but because like you say, someone has to pick up the tab for the physical, emotional and spiritual costs. That's more of a pragmatic decision rather than a dogmatic one.
I suppose I should have rephrased my punchline: let gays (in a loving, monogamous relationship) bugger away to their hearts' content! THEY are not doing any harm to us now, are they?
