Did you ever read _The Melancholy Death of Oyster Boy and Other Stories_? It's a book of very short stories written and illustrated by Tim Burton.
Here is a quote from the story "James":
"Unwisely, Santa offered a teddy bear to James, unaware that he had been mauled by a grizzly earlier that year."
It's even better with the picture.
