34" waist and US name brand? Sounds like a medium. Do measure your hips, though, and remember that a large will fit a smaller person but not vice-versa.
The trouble with trying to optimize both price and quality is that the two goals oppose each other. Me, I paid $15 today for a pack of 18 depends overnights, large (fits me), and another $5 for a pack of 20 depends boosts booster pads. Just checked XP medical(on-line), they have some fairly cheap (under $10) sample packs of stuff that makes Depends look like junk (like Abenas, Molicares & Attends) but you have to be able to pick up your own mail unless you want to explain to your parents. I can't speak to the quality of the various house brands of diapers; they will almost always be sold at a lower price. I do know that all of the regional and national chains (both grocery and drug -- like CVS, Walgreens, K-mart, etc) have some house brand of diapers on their shelves; Walmart is not special in this respect.
Do consider how you are going to get rid of your used diapers afterwards; I promise you it won't FIT in the toilet. Zip-lock bags (gallon size) work well for short-term (1 day) storage; add a dollop of hydrogen peroxide if it turns out to be three days or so.
