Same approach worked for me in my neck of the woods. I attended a local BDSM meeting, and while few were into diapers, I found that the people there were a lot more similar to me than not. Within a scant few months attending meetings, I had more than ten good friends who invited me everywhere: play parties, munches, dinner, movies, kinky conventions, hanging out, etc.
I'm sure Eric would do well to try some local groups by him.
