It could be worse. You could have ended up with a fetish that involves violation of the rights of others. Or you cold have ended up being a plain vanilla, in which case you wouldn't realize you were better off, and you wouldn't know about the pleasures of the 'next level'.
Everyone has to strike a balance in life through self-discipline. That, nobody escapes. If it isn't one thing, it's another. An hour of relaxation in a mudpile is a lot less damaging than overindulgence in alcohol, drugs, or drama.
