I thought about this for a very long time before I did it the first time with people near. I had done it in public, but not with anyone near enough to know anything.
But for me, it did not become a matter of confidence, or bravery - it was more a matter of abandon. This is the point that you reach (or at least I did) that allows you to say to yourself, "I just don't care if they smell me." Of course, you do care, but the notion that you can tell yourself this allows you to muster that something inside to just let it happen.
Of course, that is important, too. Because I tend to wait until there is not much more waiting, or simply put, waiting too long to get myself to a potty, and because I don't let it out all at once, it can take a bit of time for it all to get there. I do have to push on that last part - it will never move by itself, but the first part and second will come out without any pushing effort. With a really firm poop, that is a joyous feeling in itself.
Of coure, with a firm poop, there is always the danger that the bulge will be pretty destinct. That's why I wear loose pants over them (usually pant suit), so that my panties can be pushed some distance from me without making too visible a bulge. In most situations I have been in, unless someone were to look in just the right place, they 'might' see evidence of my accident while I am walking. Standing, what shows is the normal hanging of the pants, and it is not totally obvious.
So, I just try to convince myself that, regardless of whether it smells or not, I simply don't care; I have taken too long to get to a potty, and I am gonna have an accident; I want this in my panties - I need it in my panties - and it is going into my panties! At this point, can just relax (no pushing) and just let it happen. The mind can be a powerful thing.
