I use a Canon mini DV movie camera which now cost about £500 and Pinnacle Software which comes with firewire card and cable for £60. Digital movies take up a lot of space on a PC so a second hard drive is advisable cost about £80 for 40Gb. A DVD burner is also a good investment cost about £120. I suppose about $1000 all told.
You can use a still camera for 1 minute movies as Bill and others suggest but if you are going to use the kit for 'everyday' use its worth the investment in my opinion.
