I would suggest you to use a DV camcorder. When you transfer to the computer, you only have to buy a firewire adaptor card. With a fast computer and Adope Premiere Pro or even better Avid Xpress Pro you are ready to edit. When you use the firewire iee1394 transfer from yoyr DV, it will be in eksacly(?) the same quality. If yoy transfer from analough format, beside the bad quality of HI8 / Svhs etc. you also loose qualyti in the digitizing procces. You also need better ( more expensive hardware ) to convert from analough to digital.
