The first thing I organised for my little one was the 'wet work' necessities: disposable nappies, terry nappies and plastic pants and pins. She was then provided with a big bib and reins but we came to a halt regarding clothes. She had a onesie and a babygro but no play clothes. And the clothes we saw on the internet were mainly aimed at the 'sissy baby' market and apart from being satin were far too frilly and unsuitable. As I'm sure all mummies and daddies know, their little ones either 'do' frilly clothes or they don't!
So, I found a dressmaker nearby who I'm sure didn't really believe our story about going to a fancy dress weekend..which meant we needed some baby style dresses and a romper. Anyway, she agreed to make them, we chose the material and he made us a fabulous bubble romper with buttons at the back so Baby can't interfere with her nappies; two sweet little overalls - one in denim and the other in red cotton on to which she sewed some babyish motifs and finally a really smart party dress: almost a Laura Ashley type floral print and he made a pretty white broderie anglaise collar for it and short slightly puffed sleeves.
All the dresses are far far too short so that there's no disguising the bulk of her nappies and plastic pants although I do sometimes dress her in some frilly baby pants if she's going to be allowed to stay up late - she thinks it makes her look very grown up :)
Naturally we are delighted with all the clothes and they make such a difference to being able not only to feel like being a baby again but to looking like one! All of course have buttons on the back so that after I have put her in a nappy, I lay her over my knee to button her dress up.
