Not the most constructive or charming post! Actually L.E is a really decent person, and many of us find him both helpful and a good friend to have.
Personally I think it's a shame that the people who said they were interested and would show up, didn't.
It's something I would never do, as I was brought up to believe that that kind of behaviour is bad mannered. If unable to attend something I've been invited to, I've always had the decency to let the host/ess know beforehand so they know not to expect me.
