P.S. You could always talk to each and tell them of your dilemma, and ask them to spend a little more time with you to get to know each other. This way you can both find out if a relationship is going to work or not without any lies or deception getting in the way!
This is what I would do, as I'm not very good at lying, and hate feeling bad, so remain open and honest. I realise this doesn't work for or appeal to everyone, but it does make life a lot simpler!
Perhaps I've just been lucky in my friendships etc as generally the response from people has been quite positive. I think people like to know the truth so they know where they stand or whats going on.
Again, it's a personal choice only you can make, and possibly my way isn't right for you!
