Reviewing the journal I kept of my own trial, I notice the same thing. The novelty wore off quickly and the record shows that on the 8th night, I actually wavered and spent the night dry. I think I was suffering a little from fatigue as my sleep patterns were disrupted by this.

With a little will-power, I pushed on however and soon got “over the hill”.

Here’s a formula you might like to try:
Firstly, don’t drink huge amounts before going to bed. I found this would often just result in poor sleep (as I was “full”) and diapers don’t cope well with dam-busting floods – they’re really designed for protracted drizzle periods.

Secondly, go to sleep with your diaper a little wet (not soaked). Generally what I’d go to the bathroom as per normal across the evening but I’d skip the final bathroom call before bed. I’d then wet myself by fully draining the small amount of pee in my bladder into my diaper either whilst brushing my teeth (maybe easier for you if you struggle to pee laying down) or just after getting into bed. For some reason, this seems to make falling asleep a LOT easier. Since you’re already wet, something in your brain seems to stop fussing about the danger of “getting” wet. It’s easier to fall asleep and to stay asleep. You’re also habituating yourself to sleeping wet. Also, when I eventually had some successes in unconscious wetting, they were on top of being slightly wet in this fashion.

Thirdly, I think you might need to break the habit of sleeping until you’re busting for a pee. I am a very light sleeper and I’d just make a point of wetting myself with whatever my bladder had stored without changing position in bed, whenever I awoke enough to remember. If you don’t sleep that way, maybe you need something to wake you just a little around 1 – 2am (so you’ve plenty of time to fall back asleep) so that you can pee yourself with whatever you’ve got. If your bladder is really full to bursting, you’re likely to be sleeping poorly. I found myself that if I did NOT plan on wetting a diaper or bed, I’d have to be getting up once or twice during the night as my body became used to NOT storing pee all night.

It’s very interesting to see somebody else trying a similar experiment and posting their findings. Thanks for making the effort, keep trying and good luck.
