Does 5 years ago (I'm 50 now) count?
I guess it was a few years ago that I got really lazy (don't remember why) and didnt get out of bed to go to the potty. At first, I let only a tiny spurt out; then another. Then, when I let the next one go, because the bed was already a little wet, I just didnt try to stop it. Before I knew what was happening, I had emptied myself, and in a short time had to pee again. I and the bed were already wet, so I peed again. I fell asleep, and when I woke, I felt the need to pee again, so I just let go. Hubby was sooooooo mad!!!! I had nearly destroyed an expensive mattress.
That was my beginning. Hubby put a very heavy plastic sheet in the bed (painter's drop-cloth I think), then later we found a waterproof mattress cover that was not only comfortable, but quiet, too. Now, I add a hospital-type pad, and a couple of towels to my side of the bed, and the cover seldom gets wet at all; much less the mattress.
I don't pee in bed every night; indeed, only about twice or three times a month. It just means I have a little additional laundry to take care of.
I don't know if I am regressing or not (I don't think I am trying to), but I have found that my panties get a little wet away from home from time to time. Does that mean losing control a little?
