Actually, what nearly destroyed this mattress was hubby's resolution. He tried to dry it quickly, and too fast, and the outer covering cracked some, and looked very bad once he got finished. If he had let it try, it may have been just fine; stained a little, but otherwise, ok - but then, Im no expert either - I could be wrong.
with all the protection we use now, it doesn't really matter too much when I pee, or how much - or even whatever else I do there - the mattress is well protected.
